Karin Elizabeth Swanson has been a prosecutor for over 16 years. Karin began the first four years of her career at the Attorney General’s office of Illinois assigned to the Statewide Grand Jury Bureau. During her time with the Attorney General’s office, Karin tried numerous felony cases, including prosecuting the first possession of GHB (date rape drug) case, from investigation to successful conviction after a jury trial. Additionally, Karin successfully convicted the first sexually violent person in the state of Illinois.
Karin is currently a first chair in the Cook County State’s attorney’s office. Karin has tried over 60 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, including numerous murders, aggravated batteries with firearms and sexual assault cases.
Karin is passionate about the work she does, trying to help the community by preventing future violence, and is zealous about protecting those who cannot protect themselves. Karin has the experience, ethics and temperament to be an exceptional judge.
Karin was born and raised in the western suburbs and currently lives in LaGrange Park, with her husband Chris Reising, a former marine, and her two children, Cailin and Morgan.

The Alliance of Bar Associations for Judicial Screening is comprised of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area (AABA), Black Women’s Lawyers Association of Greater Chicago (BWLA), Chicago Council of Lawyers (CCL), Cook County Bar Association (CCBA), Decalogue Society of Lawyers (DSL), Hellenic Bar Association (HBA), Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI), Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago (LAGBAC), Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois (PRBA), and Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI), working collaboratively to improve the process of screening judicial candidates in Cook County, Illinois.
